Carp-Trade travelled to Essex to catch up with Kevin Nash to preview the new range of Carp Clobber, a new concept in carp fishing clothing designed with the angler very much in mind.
Three years ago Nash launched the Zero Tolerance range, but, as Kevin Nash commented to Carp-Trade, on reflection there were to many specialised items within the range. For example, there was a non waterproof Bivvy Duck Down Suit and there was also a waterproof version of the same suit. Both served different purposes and each had different attributes, but carp anglers don’t want to carry two different suits. During our meeting Kevin was keen to emphasise that the range had been narrowed down to what the company thinks are the essential items of clothing that a carp angler would, first and foremost wear, and, secondly, buy. All the new items in the clothing range also carry a very strong brand label.
Every item in the range has been designed with one of two things in mind – either comfort in the bivvy or practicality on the bank, and when you see the range we think you’ll have to agree that Nash has got it spot-on.
Moving on from the initial Zero Tolerance range, Kevin was also keen to listen to the retailer and the consumer, and this has resulted in some of the items on the original range being merged, leading to the creation of a more practical garment. For example, Duck Down has now been merged with the previous Wind Cheeta, making a hybrid garment that has the best features of both. The new Zero Tolerance Duck Down jacket and trouser provide the ultimate in warmth and, as the team at Nash have quoted, “You can’t walk to your swim wearing it because you‘ll cook, it really is that warm.” If you don’t believe them, try it!
Kevin says: “When it came to clothing that was being worn on the bank, I originally tried to convey the science of the layer concept, more so for the winter months. However, our climate has changed and the lack of winter fishing means there is no real demand for anglers to take mountains of different clothing with them. Since that time people have cottoned on to the idea of wearing lightweight, but warm, clothing, as a shell and then adding to it with a quality waterproof system over the top, as and when needed. This new range offers a multitude of options through a precise but fined-downed version of the original range. With the combination of just two or three of these garments the carp angler can achieve total protection from the wind, rain, and the cold. In fact, I wouldn’t go fishing without them.”
Looking through the range it’s plain to see why this clothing will be so successful. Even in such a refined range there’s an item of clothing that will give total insulation in the winter, protect against the chill of an autumn evening, or provide comfortable attire when sitting in the bivvy during the warmer or colder months. Of particular note is the Combat Max Hoodie and the Combat Max Water proof Jacket and Trouser. Carp-Trade can also see a lot of anglers investing in the Trakki System as this is a garment that can be worn under the Max Hoodie or the Max Water proofs, yet still provides a practical item of clothing for the sitting or sleeping in, although for colder times there’s also the Zero Tolerance Second Skin. To complement the clothing there are also two designs of boots and even socks, plus mitts and thermal hats. The quality and design of the range are second to none and Nash have really done their homework as all the items we were shown ooze quality. So what about the price? In carp-trades opinion many of the items we saw are far too cheap! This stuff is going to fly of the shelves and with Christmas approaching you’d be daft not to have a plentiful supply in stock. We predict that the combat Max Hoodie is going to be a massive seller, as will the Combat Max Waterproof jacket and Trousers.
The launch date for the range is set for November 1st and retailers visiting one of the various Nash Trade shows would be well advised to stock up quickly with the new range of clothing as we are sure it’s going to be a winner. Al the garments are sold by chest measurements, with each of these sizes falling into the Medium, large, Extra Large, or Extra Extra Large categories.
